THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME MR WABI 🥢

So… what does “Mr Wabi” actually mean?

The name Mr Wabi comes from Wabi Sabi a Japanese philosophy centred around finding beauty in the imperfect, the unfinished, the simple and the fleeting.

Wabi speaks to simplicity, authenticity and appreciating the beauty in things that aren’t polished or perfect.

Sabi is about the beauty that comes with age, time and imperfection the idea that things can become more meaningful as they evolve.

And that’s the spirit behind Mr Wabi.

We’re not about being perfect.

We’re about good food, good drinks, good people and good nights.

A little rough around the edges.
A little unexpected.
Always authentic.

Hidden down Burnett Lane, Mr Wabi is our take on asian inspired food, wh**ky, cocktails and late-night energy where the imperfect moments usually become the best ones.
Wabi Sabi.

Find beauty in the imperfect.
Welcome to Mr Wabi. 🥢🥃🖤

Today we were lucky to be part of the Helfi Addiction Fitness K4K team (kilometres for kids) 5km walk. What a great turn out as team Helfi raised over $17,000 for this charity.

The work the Helfi team have done to create a great atmosphere in their gym but also in the community is such an honour to witness.

Great work team Helfi, we cannot wait to be part of the next K4K event and excited to see what community events you have planned in the future!

🤫 AUGUST HAS A SECRET…

However we are hard launching this early 🫣

If you know, you know

Starting this August, we’ve teamed up with Suntory to unlock something we’ve been quietly crafting behind the bar... a secret cocktail menu featuring Japan’s finest spirits:

🥃 Suntory Toki Wh**ky
🍸 Haku Vodka
🌿 Roku Gin

But here’s what makes it even more special...

Every cocktail on this hidden menu has been personally created by our Bar Manager, Toji—a collection of off-menu recipes inspired by Japanese flavours, premium spirits, and late nights in Tokyo’s hidden cocktail bars.

These cocktails won’t be on the menu, they won’t be advertised and we won’t be offering them to everyone.
The only way in?

✨ Say the code word: “SUNTORY.” ✨

Use it when booking online or whisper it to one of our team when you arrive, and you’ll unlock access to Toji’s exclusive off-menu cocktail collection.

Think neon lights, hidden alleyways, a bartender making something you’ve never tasted before.

One drink becomes two... then suddenly it’s midnight.
This one’s for the curious, the cocktail lovers, the people who know the best experiences are usually the ones you have to ask for.

The secret starts in August. Just remember one word...
SUNTORY. 🥃🌸

P.S. Don’t ask for the secret menu... ask for Toji’s menu and watch what happens. 😉

Your Uber Eats driver could never... 😏🍱

This isn’t meal prep.
This is main character energy.

A little bao
A little satay skewer
A little teriyaki chicken
A little wonton
A little duck spring roll
A little “I’ll just have one bite”...
..followed by you aggressively defending your last piece like it’s a family heirloom.

Life’s too short to order boring food.

📍 Find us tucked away in Burnett Lane, where the walls have attitude and the food has even more.

Warning: Side effects may include food envy, table theft, and friends suddenly becoming “just one bite” experts.

Tag the mate who says “I’m not that hungry”... then finishes half your meal. 👇

Fast forward 3 hours...

✅ Ordered “just a few” share plates.
✅ Debated who was paying.
✅ Somehow ended up talking about life, conspiracy theories, and that one ex nobody should’ve brought up.
✅ Already planning your next visit.

That’s just another night at Mr Wabi. 🍣🥢

Hidden down Burnett Lane, serving Japanese eats, good drinks, and the kind of atmosphere that turns a quick catch-up into an all-night session.

🥃 Warning: This bottle may cause you to suddenly become a Japanese wh**ky expert after exactly one sip... 😉

At Mr Wabi, we don’t just pour drinks—we pour conversations, celebrations, and the occasional “just one more.”

From smooth, rare pours like Nikka Coffey Grain Wh**ky to hidden gems you’ve probably never tried, we’ve got over 12 different Japanese whiskies waiting behind the bar.

Whether you’re a seasoned wh**ky lover or just here because your mate said, “Trust me,” we’ve got something that’ll make you stay for another round.

Come for dinner. Stay for the wh**ky. Leave wondering why your home bar suddenly feels inadequate. 🥃😂

POV: You stopped waiting for the group chat to agree on a time… 😮‍💨

Because let’s be honest…

“There are still 3 people who haven’t replied.”

“It’s too hard to organise everyone.”

“Let’s do next week.”

Next thing you know, it’s three months later and you’re still waiting.

Meanwhile... you’re sitting at Mr Wabi with crispy bites, loaded fried rice, cocktails in hand, and absolutely zero regrets.
Life’s too short to wait for everyone else’s schedule.
Book the table. Order the food. Tag them in the photos later. 😉

POV: You said, “Let’s just have one drink.” 🍸

Three cocktails later and suddenly you’re sharing life stories with strangers, planning a Bali trip you’ll never book, and convincing yourself that tomorrow’s problem belongs to tomorrow.

At Mr Wabi, we don’t judge bad decisions. We just make them taste really, really good.

Silky. Dangerous. Beautifully balanced. Kind of like that text you probably shouldn’t send.

Find us hidden down Burnett Lane, Brisbane City, where the cocktails are cold, the lighting is flattering, and self-control is optional.

Sharing plates at Mr Wabi sounds great in theory... 😏🥢

“Let’s just get a few things for the table.”
A beautiful idea.

Until someone orders the strawberry pork.
Then suddenly everyone’s counting pieces, guarding bowls, and developing trust issues.

One prawn left? That’s not a prawn. That’s a test of friendship.

At Mr Wabi, we believe in sharing memories, sharing laughs, and sharing cocktails... But that last dumpling? Every person for themselves. 🔥
