Did you know Brisbane has its very own coffee farm?

We chatted with Phil from Savages Coffee to learn more about what it takes to grow, harvest and roast coffee right here in Queensland.

Rising Sun Roasters is proud to support sustainable, locally grown coffee - because great coffee starts at the source ☕

Not a bad result for my first roasting competition entry!

This competition coffee is available exclusively at Citron - Bayside if you would like to give it a try, or you can order the washed process from Savages Coffee directly (not roasted by me).

That’s a wrap. Even so there’s still cherries on the trees, picking season is over now that the weather has hit 30 degrees. It’s time for sorting, drying and processing for me.

Phil, the farm owner, and Coco, the Border Collie and big boss, now turn their attention to the ripening avocados and mangoes that also grow on the farm.

It’s the final few days of the picking season at Brookfield here in Brisbane. Of course we’ve been picking only the ripest cherries.

Soon it will be too hot and the sun will burn the fruit, but this cooler end of Spring has meant nice slow ripening - which should mean lots of sweetness in the cup.

Looking forward to sharing these coffees with you soon.

Have just had a busy couple of weeks picking and harvesting. I'm not sure if I would do this for USD$2/day, which is what pickers are paid in some parts of the world.

Can anyone guess where in the world this photo was taken? There's a free coffee in it for anyone that gets the right answer first!

Hi all! My name is Danny Venzin. I've been roasting professionally since 2018 and now I'd like to introduce you to my brand, Rising Sun Rituals.

From my first roasting days I've always sourced coffees exclusively from Australian and South-East Asian small farms in order to minimise my carbon footprint. Those are the beans I'll continue to exclusively roast for you as I believe we should be drinking more coffee from regions close to the source - even if there might be more profit selling coffees from Africa and South America.

For now you can find my solar power roasted coffee available at Citron - Bayside as both the house blend and on single origin. Please send me a message or an e-mail if you would like any beans while I build my website or you're interested in wholesale supply. I offer free next day delivery to Brisbane Bayside orders of 1kg or more.
