🔥 A QUICK UPDATE FROM US ABOUT PRICING 🔥
For a long time, we’ve done everything possible to absorb rising costs rather than passing them on to our customers. Unfortunately, we’ve reached a point where some prices need to increase so we can continue doing what we love and keep our smokers burning.
Low & slow BBQ is incredibly labour intensive. Long before your meal reaches the counter, our meats are trimmed and seasoned by hand, then smoked for hours — often throughout the day and night — while our smokers constantly need maintaining and feeding with firewood.
Something that’s easily overlooked is yield. After trimming and smoking, we generally only have around 60% of the original meat weight left to sell. When we purchase 10kg of meat, we certainly don’t have 10kg left to serve.
BBQ also comes with expenses many other food businesses don’t have — huge quantities of spices, firewood, sauces and consumables. Even the commercial foil used throughout our smoking process is now over $80 a roll! Add rising meat and produce costs, electricity, gas, packaging, plus hospitality wages and penalty rates, and the margins become incredibly tight.
Sadly, we’ve watched many great BBQ restaurants close their doors because the amount of work and expense involved simply became unsustainable.
We don’t want Smokin Butts & Racks to become another one of them.
For example, our Meat Taster Box includes:
🥩 200g Brisket
🐷 100g Pulled Pork
🍗 100g Smoked Chicken
🌭 120g Kransky
🍟 Fries & Slaw
🥖 Dinner Roll & Butter
🥫 Sauce
Previously $45, this will now be $55.
That’s over half a kilo of smoked meats alone, before the sides and extras. Compare our portions and pricing with other established BBQ businesses and you’ll see we’re still doing everything we can to offer genuine low & slow BBQ at reasonable prices.
We could reduce portions, compromise on quality or take shortcuts.
We’d rather keep doing BBQ properly.
We know nobody loves a price increase, but we wanted to be transparent about why it’s necessary.

We’ve made some changes to our trading hours as we continue trying to keep our prices as low as possible for our customers.
With rising supplier costs, inflation, and an extremely busy catering season ahead, these changes help us continue delivering the quality BBQ and catering service SBR is known for without immediately passing those increases on to consumers. ☹️
Local businesses are still welcome to email us about organising bulk team lunches on Fridays. With 48+ hours notice, we will be able to organise your BBQ feast & keep that team motivated & well fed!😋
At some point SBR will eventually need to pass on some inflation costs, but we’re doing everything we can to hold off as long as possible.
