So incredibly proud of our brother and team mate Matt.
We are excited to see what comes next for the ABA and yourself brother.
Congratulations mate the ABA is in great hands.
Australian Barbecue Alliance Welcomes Matt Redman as Incoming Vice President
The ABA is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Redman as Vice President, following a vote at the March Board meeting.
Matt has been a fixture in the Australian competition BBQ scene for nearly a decade, joining Primal Iron BBQ - the 2023/24 ABA Popular Vote Team of the Year and 2021/22 Caterer of the Year, nine years ago. A chicken specialist on the competition floor, Matt is always refining his processes and chasing better flavour profiles. When he's not competing, you'll find him cooking over fire on his custom-built 2Js Parrilla, because for Matt, BBQ doesn't stop when the comp does. Matt is married with 2 teenage kids and loves being outdoors, camping and bushwalking. The perfect combo with live fire!
Off the smoker, Matt brings close to 30 years of software development experience to the Board, having worked across News Corporation, Domain Group, Suncorp Bank, and ANZ. ABA members may already be benefiting from his work without knowing it. Matt built the automated score release program that streamlines how results are published after each comp. His focus in the VP role will be on improving the ABA's technical capability and making every experience for our community as smooth and friction-free as possible.
In Matt's own words: "I'm very keen to help grow our community of cooks and provide the best possible Bloody Mary - or coffee, depending on the circumstance. I'm always incredibly happy to jump in and help anyone who needs it, especially teams new to the scene. My long term goal is to be as helpful as Demi has been, while offering my own spin on things"
Filling Demi’s shoes is no easy feat (his words, not ours), but Matt's combination of competition experience, technical expertise, and genuine love for this community makes him a fantastic addition to the ABA leadership team. We can't wait to see what he brings to the role.
Congratulations, Matt!
