This year I am on a mission to raise 50,000 dollars for the Cancer Council through the Mystery Box Rally. Big goal. Even bigger reason.

But I need to make it interesting.

So here is the deal.

If I hit the 50,000 target, the LARGEST sponsor or donor gets the honour of taking the clippers to my beard. Yes, actually shaving it off themselves. No tidy up. No stylish trim. Just goodbye beard.

This thing has been around a while too, so this is not a small sacrifice. My face might suffer, but it is nothing compared to what people facing cancer go through.

Hey, I’ve been thinking about something a lot lately, and I wanted to share it with you. Cancer touches everyone in some way. A friend, a partner, a parent, a mate from work, someone you grew up with. You hear a name and your stomach just drops. You remember the stories, the treatments, the fear, the strength. It’s everywhere, and it hits hard.

That is why our team, Broken Lost, is jumping back into the Mystery Box Rally. Yeah, we’ll be bouncing around the outback in old Mazdas and having a laugh, but underneath the fun is a real purpose: raising money for cancer research. It is about doing something that might help the next family avoid that heartbreak. It is about pushing for better answers and better outcomes.

So, I’m reaching out with an open heart. If you’re able to sponsor us or chip in with a donation, it honestly makes a difference. Every bit of support goes straight into the research that could change someone’s life, and maybe even save it. Imagine being part of that.

So, hey, got a minute? I’m putting the word out because Broken Lost Free is gearing up for the 2026 Mystery Box Rally, and we’re on the lookout for some legends who want to jump on board as sponsors.

We’re talking five days on outback roads in a car that’s old enough to have its own stories. Every morning we get our route revealed, so it’s full of surprises. All of it raises money for cancer research, which is pretty awesome. Can you imagine the fun we’ll have out there?

Day 9 – Homeward bound!

Time to start the long trek back. Evan and Carlo are rolling in Broken Lost, while Greg and Kasey are cruising in Broken Lost Trois. Jy had to peel off and fly down to Melbourne for the 4x4 show, Vern’s making his way back to Lismore, and Kathleen and Sally are heading off a little later.

For us, it’s a straight run with only the essentials – fuel and food stops. Tonight’s stop is Coonabarabran, then tomorrow it’s the final stretch home.

What a ride it’s been! The rally might be over, but the laughs, the memories, and the bonds made along the way will stick with us long after the dust settles. And yep… we’ll be back for Charleville in September next year!
