Happy Saturday...

With a function on later today, I have a slightly slower start to the day. Well, I say slower... I've been up for hours, the boys have just headed off to soccer, and the breakfast dishes are still sitting on the bench waiting patiently for me!

But for a few minutes, I'm sitting here with a cup of tea and a butter-and-honey-soaked crumpet beside me, and it has me thinking...

Are crumpets a winter food?

In our house, they absolutely are.

For ten months of the year, they barely get a look in. Then the temperature drops, the mornings turn grey, the kettle goes on a little more often... and suddenly someone suggests crumpets and we are in full crumpet mode.

Perhaps it's because they're best eaten hot, with far too much butter and honey melting into all those little holes. Comfort food. Perhaps they remind me of childhood mornings - standing in front of the heater, cartoons on the television, Dad in the kitchen, with no rush to be anywhere.

Whatever the reason, crumpets mean winter to me.

So, here's to a great Saturday, whatever you're up to... and don't worry too much about doing your hair this morning, with this wind, it seems a slightly optimistic exercise!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I should probably deal with those breakfast dishes...

Happy Wednesday...

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about change... and how rarely it arrives all at once.

Most of the time it comes quietly... sometimes almost unnoticed... and only rarely (thank goodness!) loudly.

It comes in small (and occasionally big!) decisions... not always of my own making.
Different conversations.
Learning new things.
Letting go of things.
Making room for something new before you fully understand what it is, or what it might look like yet.

On Mondays lately, I’ve found myself spending more time back in the kitchen... often by myself... playing with ideas, trying new recipes, making a mess, washing dishes, listening to podcasts and remembering just how much I love three girls in all her guises.

And somewhere in amongst the butter, flour and sugar, I’ve realised something... sometimes change doesn’t feel dramatic at all.

Sometimes it simply feels, in part, like returning to the parts of yourself that always made sense.

Change can look like...
A different approach.
A recipe revisited... or a new one trialled (disasters included!)
A day spent differently.
New faces.
Less time in front of a computer.
More time spent building the things that matter slowly.
Remembering the comfort, for me, of being in the kitchen.

Not every season is comfortable... but there can still be something very exciting about standing at the edge of change and quietly knowing life is shifting again.

Not perfectly.
Not instantly.
Just steadily.

And maybe that’s enough. Maybe that’s where all the good things begin.

Anyway... just a little thought for the middle of the week.

Here’s to a great day... whatever you get up to.

Happy Sunday... and Happy Mother’s Day. X

Mother’s Day always makes me think about all the little things that slowly add up to the role of mother... Mum.

The middle-of-the-night bed shuffles with a child somehow lying sideways across the mattress.

Having to tie shoelaces... until one day they suddenly do it themselves.

The frantic mornings with crooked ties, half-packed lunchboxes and wet sports uniforms pulled from the clothes line because you had forgotten to wash!

The endless snacks... the standing in front of a full fridge declaring there is “nothing to eat”... and the daily question of “what’s for dinner?”

The washing that appears endlessly and mysteriously, often beside the clothes basket.

The random hugs.

The side-by-side conversations in the car that somehow become the best ones.

The questions.
The worry.
The pride.
The exhaustion.
The joy.
The love.

At the time, so much of it just feels like ordinary life... busy, messy, funny, beautiful life.

But somehow all those little moments quietly become motherhood. They build a family. They build memories. They build a life.

And while none of this belongs solely to mothers - because it truly takes a village - Mother’s Day does feel like a lovely reminder to stop and appreciate the privilege of being part of it all.

The ordinary moments are often the big moments after all.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers, in all their forms, out there. Happy Mother's Day Ju Ju. X

Happy Saturday....

Mother's Day Saturday is our second biggest day of the our year (second only to Christmas Eve!).

The team have spent the week making jars of Jams (think our Signature Strawberry Jam, a Raspberry and Rhubarb, a Vaniila Blackberry), jars or Curd (Yuzu and Pineapple- winner, Raspberry - another winner, and Classic Lemon), bags and bags of Biscuits...and Cakes, we are overflowing with glorious, beautiful, decadent cakes in all shapes and sizes.

Of course, there are scones (more to go in the oven soon) and chicken finger sandwiches, a fridge full of meals... a brunch menu, if you have time to stop...and the list goes on.

The tunes are on, Isaac and Catherine (who have pulled an all nighter - champions - X) are about to leave and the rest of the amazing team are getting into the wonderful rhythm of a busy day.

Here's to a great day...whatever you get up to.

See you at the shop!

Happy Saturday…

I filled up with petrol this morning… $1.69.9 a litre… and found myself thinking, “that’s cheap… I should fill up!”

Since when did $1.69 feel cheap? (Since it was, just days ago, over $2.50 a litre… that’s when!!)

I remember when I first started driving… petrol was about 42c a litre. A stamp was 41c… a proper “fancy” cocktail was $7… you could get a cup of hot chips for $1… and 500g of butter was $1.49 (and that wasn’t even on special!!)… and the list goes on.

Oh how times change… so gradually you don’t even notice… and then one day you’re standing there thinking $1.69 is cheap petrol!!

I suppose that’s how life moves… quietly, steadily… until you catch yourself in a moment like that and realise just how grown up you are now!!

Here’s to a great long weekend… a chance to fill your cup,and maybe your petrol tank, while it’s “cheap"!!

Happy Friday…

I’ve been thinking a lot about how quickly time moves… I mean, it’s May already!!

The years feel shorter… the seasons seem to turn before you have quite settled into them… and the people we love are never really in the same place twice. Children grow older, families shift, life gets busier… and somehow the year passes by.

And it makes you realise that the moments where everyone is together… sitting around a table, sharing something simple… are the ones that matter the most (Mother’s Day or not).

Mother’s Day, for me, has become less about the “gift”… and more about the pause.

A reason to gather.
A reason to sit down together… something sweet on the table, a cup of tea going cold while the conversation doesn’t.
A reason to celebrate Mum… in all her guises.

This is why I love our three girls Mother’s Day High Tea Boxes.

Because they are really just a gentle excuse to come together… to share something lovely… and to mark the day in a way that feels special.

Each box is filled with all the three girls things we love:
Scones with our strawberry jam and chantilly cream
Raspberry & almond friands
Chocolate brownie hearts
Passionfruit melting moments
Honey madeleines
Gin & tonic cake
Chicken finger sandwiches
Petit quiche
Homemade sausage rolls
Cherry tomato tart tatin with feta

Box for 4 - $180
Box for 6 - $270

Orders close Wednesday 6th May
Collection Saturday 9th May

Orders are through the website:

(The shop, of course, will also be overflowing with cakes and biscuits and jams and… all the things. X)

Happy Tuesday…

I accidentally overcooked my green beans last night… and I loved them!

On Sunday, I took a quick trip out to the Scenic Rim Farm Shop & Café to pick up crates of corn and beetroot… and, as is often the case, it turned into a morning of it. Breakfast at the café, a quick look at Her Herd Boutique, a chat and order at Elderflower Farm… then a wander through Fifth Acre’s produce stall - tables overflowing with all sorts of seasonal vegetables.

Freshly picked corn, bunches of deep green kale, wedges of pumpkin, broccoli, carrots, beetroot and radishes, farm fresh eggs… and bundles of just-picked beans. Heaven. Of course I couldn't resist!

So far, I’ve made pumpkin and coconut soup, a pot of minestrone, corn (cooked in the microwave) smothered in butter, salt and pepper… a very rustic mash… and those overcooked beans last night.

And those beans instantly took me back to my grandmother’s kitchen. She was an amazing cook… but from a time when everything was boiled within an inch of its life. One bite and I was there in her kitchen beside her… the aluminium saucepan, with the lid half off, boiling away, bright green beans turning to soft grey-green… all of it eventually covered in gravy or sauce.

It made me smile… a simple reminder of her, and a chance to remember and talk about Dad’s mum with Lach (who never knew her)… all from one overcooked bean.

I’ll try not to make it a habit… but an overcooked bean holds a place in my heart!

(If you’re looking to fill your cup… I can’t recommend a drive out to the Scenic Rim enough.)

For now… it’s all systems go into a busy week.

The cabinet will be filling with all sorts of good things.
The shelves stocked with jars of jams and biscuits.
The fridge full of meals to help us get through the week.

three girls fishing will be OPEN for dinner from 4pm.

And I’ve got a day in front of the computer playing catch-up… UGH!!

Here’s to a good week… whatever you get up to.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Remembering can look like standing on a quiet hill at Norman Park… some in uniform, some in suits heavy with medals, some in gym wear, some in whatever was randomly pulled on in the early morning. Parents gently keeping children still… a shared pause in an otherwise ordinary street.

And in that moment, we remember those who stepped up… and those who continue to step up… to protect us, and to give us the freedoms we so often take for granted.

Remembering can also be something quieter… a moment to yourself, looking out to the horizon, and giving thanks. We are so very fortunate.

Lest we forget.

Happy Thursday…

This might be my favourite time of year…

The cooler mornings… the slight hesitation before leaving the warmth of bed, reaching for a cardigan, slipping on my well worn ugg boots…

By 10am (probably more 9am!) it will be warm again… but for now, there is the small glimpse of "winter" that I rather love.

(I did put doonas on the beds at home, convinced a proper cold snap was coming… but the boys have been less enthusiastic - apparently it’s “not cold enough” and they’re all overheating…!!!)

Not me… I’m very happy.

Here's to a great day...whatever you get up to!

Happy Wednesday…

Three things...

1. Scenic Rim Eat Local Month
29th May -30th June

Yesterday marked the launch of this year’s Eat Local Month… and 15 years of farmers, producers, makers and cooks proudly (and rightly) showcasing the best of what they do.

It has grown into something quite special… long tables set in paddocks, food shared under open skies, stories told through what’s grown close to home… alongside farm tours, hands-on workshops, tastings, family days, and small, intimate gatherings that bring people closer to the land and the community behind it.

A wondereful reminder… that good food begins long before it reaches the plate.

We will be there again this year… cooking for the Long Lunch at the Scenic Rim Farm Shop & Café on the 7th June… which always feels like a privilege, and something we look forward to each year.

Happy Saturday...

Early mornings in the kitchen... I'm in control of the music (when does that ever happen!!).. a team with big smiles...and still, after all these years, being here is one of my favourite places to be.

Ann and Jackson are all things savoury. Gen's Scenic Rim Farm Shop & Cafe hand pick corn, that arrived yesterday, has been made into three cheese, corn and potato croquettes (you know Ann will add an egg or two and our Hollandaise...and we will all want it for breakfast!!). There is also a tuna and cheese melt...along with the usual classics.

Catherine and I are all things sweet. Scones are made... cabinet is filling... I have a cake or two I want to try today, time allowing.

Coffee machine is on.

We (I) ave a lot to be grateful for.

Happy weekend. I hope it is a good one..whatever you get up to.

Happy Wednesday…

I’ve had the same piece of artwork hanging just inside our front door at home for years… one of those pieces I’ve walked past daily that has simply become part of the wall… something I don’t really notice anymore.

Yesterday morning, in the middle of the usual rush… clean tea towels for work in hand, a heavy bag of “stuff” slung over my shoulder, already halfway out the door… I stopped. Just long enough to read the words tucked into the corner.

“So, what if, instead of thinking about solving your whole life, you just think about adding additional good things, one at a time… just let your pile of good things grow.” (Tim Sharp)

And I woke up this morning with those words still in my head.

It isn’t a grand idea… nothing loud or demanding… just a simple thought, a slight shift in direction.

Because it’s so easy to get caught up in everything that needs fixing… the problems, the pressure, the running around, the “it will be better when…”

But maybe it’s not about solving everything all at once.

Maybe it’s just about noticing… and adding… a lot more of the good bits.

An uninterrupted cup of tea in the quiet of the morning.
A kind word.
A small win.
A slice of cake - shared (or not!).
A laugh at something silly…
(happily embracing the fact that your son has taken to wearing Birkenstocks with long socks… in public).
… and the list goes on.

Letting those little good things stack up quietly in the background.

The dramas will always be there… that’s life. But if we keep adding to the pile of good things, surely that’s a win… and one day you realise there is more of it than you thought.

Anyway… it felt like the little reminder I needed. Thought I’d share it, just in case you needed it too.

Here’s to all the good stuff… may your cup overflow with the good stuff… always. X

Happy Wednesday…

This just might be my favourite time of year. That quiet stretch where the rush before Easter softens into school holidays… cooler, darker mornings that let you linger in bed a little longer…something warm pulled over your pyjamas.

The days at the shop slow a touch too… enough to refill the shelves with bags of biscuits and jars of all sorts of good things. Never time wasted.

And so here I am… sitting quietly, waiting for Lach’s alarm to go off…a cup of tea with toast smothered in marmalade (a gift from a friend… which is always the best), a work drop-off to come and then into the day we go.

There’s something nice about that rhythm.

Happy days for us all.

Happy Friday…

Easter always feels like the quieter of the year’s celebrations. It’s the kind of day that doesn’t need overthinking.

Families and friends still gather… tables are still set (or not!) … but there’s a softness to it. Less expectation, more ease.

It doesn’t take much to mark the occasion.
A bowl of prawns.
A plate of sandwiches.
A simple cake, sliced and shared.
A handful of chocolate eggs… passed around the table and slowly unwrapped… no one counting how many you’ve had.

We’ve kept things in that spirit this weekend… simple, warm and ready.

If you feel like stopping in… we’d love to see you.

Happy Wednesday…

It feels like I've only just packed away the Christmas decorations… and here we are again, another season, another quiet marker of the year passing.

Once upon a time, Easter felt simple. A Humpty Dumpty Easter Egg, a bucket of the little ones that have to be annoyingly picked at to unwrap… hot cross buns (fruit, or no fruit), and only ever at Easter - not in January… and never the option of Vegemite and Cheese, Jalapeño or Iced Vovo!!

And yet, in amongst all of that, Easter still feels the same.

Seafood on Friday.
Hot cross buns warmed in the oven with lashing of butter.
Chocolate before lunch (or breakfast!)
And a table that holds you a little longer than usual.

We will be open Friday and Saturday if you find yourself passing by… we would love to see you.

10/03/2026

Some people carry enormous hearts.

My dear friend Wendy is one of those people.

From her kitchen bench at Tipperary Station, while watching the devastation so many rural communities are facing through floods, she decided she couldn’t just sit and feel helpless… she had to do something.

So she did what she does best.

In four days she sat down and wrote a little cookbook... “Stations Helping Stations.”

It is twelve recipes she cooks on the station, the kind of food that feeds people well and brings everyone to the table Not fancy but comfort food at its best. (Her carrot cake recipe is in there, one I have coveted for years!).

Every single dollar raised will go to Rural Aid, helping farmers and station families get back on their feet.

It’s such a generous, practical and heartfelt thing to do… and it made me proud all over again to call her my friend.

If you have it in you to help, please buy a copy and share her post.

Sometimes the world changes because of the big things… and sometimes it changes because someone with a big heart decides to do something small, and invites the rest of us to join in.

Very proud of you Wendy. X

Happy Wednesday....

We are so honoured to be cooking for Curry & Conversation on Thursday 19th March 2026, hosted by the QCWA Moggill branch, to raise funds for the Clermont community following the recent floods.

When you see the images of floodwaters rolling through town and farms, it can feel distant. But behind every photo is someone’s kitchen. Someone’s business. Someone’s paddock. Someone’s memories. And the long, exhausting work of cleaning up and starting again.

As we know, recovery is not just about rebuilding fences and roads. It is about rebuilding spirit. It is about knowing that people you have never met care enough to show up to cheer you on.

That is what this night is about.

A room full of people. Bowls of simple curry. Honest conversation with the wonderful Pip Courtney... and a collective decision to lean in and help.

We are incredibly proud that three girls skipping has been asked to be part of the night. Nothing fancy but cooked with heart. And if we can help fill a room with warmth for a cause like this, well, that is exactly what our amazing community does.

If you would like to join us:

Thursday 19th March 2026
Graceville Bowls Club
5.30pm for 6pm meal
$65 per person
Bookings essential via www.qcwa.org.au

We would love to see you there.

Happy Saturday...

Some of you may have noticed a new face around the café on Saturdays. Lach, my gorgeous son, is officially on the roster.

He has taken to his new job very seriously. On his very first shift, which I dropped him to and consequently we were running late, Shaun told him, “If you’re not early, you’re late.”

It has become his mantra. As I write this, he is pacing the floor at home waiting for his Dad to get organised to take him to work. There is no risk of being late on his watch now!!

Thankfully, he has turned out to be a great little worker, and one well worth employing, thank goodness. He listens, he hustles, and he genuinely cares about doing a good job.

I truly believe part time jobs are one of the best teachers our kids can have. They learn lessons they would absolutely roll their eyes at if we tried to lecture them at home.

They learn responsibility.
They learn the value of earning a dollar and what it actually takes to earn it.
They learn how to interact with all sorts of people, manage expectations, and turn up even when they do not feel like it.

All lessons that will hopefully hold them in good stead for whatever comes next.

Here’s to a great day, whatever you get up to.

And if you see Lach - he will be the one with the look of concentration on his face as he carry's out a cup of coffee - say Hi!

Happy Friday…

My love letter to you… X

Valentine’s Day is meant to be about romantic love.
Heart-shaped everything. Long-stemmed roses (that in this heat will last about a day). Teddy bears clutching red satin hearts. Boxes of chocolates. Cards with very wordy declarations.

And while I’m not opposed to a good box of chocolates… this isn’t about that kind of love.

This is my love letter to you.

Because never should I doubt that three girls is exactly where she’s meant to be. This little shop on the corner is surrounded by the very best people… the very best community.

Sometimes, when life is busy and I’m juggling all the obligatory balls, I can forget that for a minute. But only for a minute. Because then something happens and I’m reminded again how lucky we are.

This Saturday is Valentine’s Day. On the calendar it’s usually the turning point. The shop gets busier. Functions fill the weekends. The year finds its rhythm.

But this week? Scorching heat. Predictions of heavy rain and flash flooding. And an awning that was removed last week with promises it would be back Monday… then Wednesday… definitely Friday afternoon… ready to install Sunday (I’ll stop there).

It hasn’t exactly been ideal.

So yesterday we rang everyone booked for dinner, fully expecting cancellations. I mean… how romantic is sitting in front of the fruit shop because it’s the driest option available?

Only one table cancelled. One!!

Every other person said, “We’re still coming.”

And I know the same will happen over the counter. People braving the rain to pick up their Valentine’s fare. Ducking between showers for their morning coffee. Turning up anyway… wet hair, umbrellas dripping, laughing about the weather and declaring how green the lawns look instantly.

These are the same people who have drunk champagne out of wine glasses because I forgot the flutes. Who have brought their own chairs when we didn’t have enough. Who happily “get what they get” from a limited menu. Who have shifted their own tables to dodge the rain.

That’s not just loyalty. That’s friendship.

And if it becomes completely unmanageable and we have to pull the pin at the last minute? I know exactly what will happen. They will wet-weather it, collect their meal, and take it home… worried more about us losing money than their own inconvenience.

How amazing is that.

Then there are the friends behind the scenes. Kyle and little Geno sending over portable tents without hesitation. A pub lending wine buckets. The Graceville bowls club lending tables and chairs… again. Neighbouring businesses working around us while we shuffle things about. And our team stepping up with smiles, as they always do.

I see these little acts of love and kindness every single day in the shop. Quiet. Unassuming. Constant.

They fill my cup.

That’s community.

That’s what three girls really is.

Not bricks and mortar. Not an awning. Not even the food.

It’s people. Big-hearted. Flexible. Steady. Good-humoured people who show up.

So this Valentine’s Day, this is my thank you.

For your patience.
For your adaptability.
For your friendship.
For choosing us.

You and the team are the heart of this little corner… and I couldn’t love you more.

Here’s to a great day… whatever you get up to.

Happy Wednesday...

With three girls fishing back this week, most of the team back from holidays, and January's pace set for the month, we are well and truly back into the year.

Keep an eye out for Isaac’s take on a classic Bakewell.. we LOVE them. Straight out of a nursery rhyme!!

Think sweet, flaky pastry… a layer of our tgs strawberry jam… baked gently with almond frangipane, then finished with a soft icing and a glossy cherry on top.

They feel like a bygone English morning tea treat. A little old-fashioned. Comforting. Familiar. Almost "proper"!! The kind of thing you imagine on a cake stand, poured tea close by, time slowing just a little (because the holiday's can't be forgotten already!!)

Here's to happy days and the odd sweet treat.
