🎉 Happy Birthday to our very own Mr Twig, Bern, Bernee, Bernard... depending on what time of day it is! 🎉
This week we're celebrating a truly special member of our community cafe family.
Bernee first walked through our doors as an energetic 18 year old, and over the years we've had the absolute joy of watching him grow into the exceptional Front of House Manager he is today. Now in his mid-20s, he's leading with a warmth, generosity and calm confidence that makes everyone around him better.
If you've spent any time in our cafe, you'll know exactly what we mean. One minute he's crafting a coffee, the next he's helping a customer, supporting a team member, jumping into the kitchen, washing dishes, solving a problem, or doing something else entirely. Bernee has never been one to stand around wondering whose job something is. If it needs doing, he's already halfway through doing it.
His positive attitude is infectious, but it's his kindness and genuine care for people that really sets the tone. He helps create the welcoming, supportive culture that makes our cafe feel less like a business and more like a community.
Perhaps it's in the blood. Bernee comes from strong social enterprise stock. His dad, Steve, was a founder of the Queensland Social Enterprise Council and now works with CQUniversity Australia Social Impact Lab. Thankfully for us, Bern has carried forward that same commitment to community, inclusion and making a difference, while adding his own unique blend of humility, hard work and a slightly alarming ability to remember coffee orders.
We're incredibly proud of the young man he's become, grateful for everything he brings to our team, and honestly, a little spoiled to have him.
So please join us in wishing Bernee a very happy birthday. 🎂
We're blessed to have you, mate. Thanks for everything you do, for everyone you support, and for being the kind of person who makes our little corner of the world a better place every single day.
❤️☕🎉

Off to the Queensland Social Enterprise Awards as finalists Friday night. Feeling proud, grateful... and mildly concerned about having to stay up after 8pm. 😅
Regardless of what happens on the night, our team is proof that amazing things happen when people back each other🫶

When your team’s version of “catering” looks a little too much like this… it might be time to have a chat with Finance. 😅
