Supporting Pets and People in Cherbourg 🐾
This year, our Visiting Vets program took a new approach by supporting the animal census activities led by AMRRIC - Animal Management in Rural & Remote Indigenous Communities and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council.
Over 4 days, our RSPCA Team helped to complete a pet count of owned dogs and cats across Cherbourg. This important work helps improve animal welfare outcomes and supports future veterinary care planning in the region.
Our Veterinary Team provided health checks, medication and treatment for countless animals, including temporary fertility control implants to help prevent unwanted litters ahead of a planned surgical desexing visit later this year.
We also worked closely with Cherbourg staff and community to strengthen local connections and support ongoing engagement around responsible pet care and animal welfare.
Through the program, 8 animals were transferred to the RSPCA.

We’re proud to continue supporting the Cherbourg community through this program for the fourth year running.

Reuniting pets after domestic violence 🐾💜
RSPCA Queensland’s Pets in Crisis program supported by the Petbarn Foundation, helped 166 animals whose owners were fleeing domestic and family violence in this past year alone.
For more than two decades, our Pets in Crisis program has provided emergency boarding and veterinary care for animals belonging to victim-survivors of domestic and family violence across Queensland.
For many people escaping violence, the fear of leaving behind a beloved pet can prevent them from seeking help. With most emergency accommodation unable to accept animals and financial constraints of boarding and veterinary care, pets often become an additional barrier to safety.
Pets in Crisis ensures pets are cared for free of charge while their owners rebuild their lives - removing a significant financial and emotional burden during an incredibly difficult time.
Reuniting animals with the people who love them is the primary aim of our program. Last year, 90% of pets were successfully reunited with their families once safe accommodation was secured. Seeing these joyful reunions is why programs like Pets in Crisis are so important.
We’re incredibly thankful to share that Troocoo has also jumped on board to support our Pets in Crisis program, helping us continue to assist people and their pets alongside ongoing support from The Petbarn Foundation and the Queensland Government.
Every family deserves safety - including the animals they love.

Adoptions Temporarily Paused
All RSPCA adoptions across our shelters, Op Shops and Petbarn locations will be temporarily unavailable from Sunday 10 May to Wednesday 13 May while we complete a significant system migration designed to help deliver even better outcomes for animals in our care.
During this time, you can still meet and greet cats and kittens at selected RSPCA Op Shops and Petbarn locations across Queensland, or submit an online Expression of Interest to Adopt form.
All RSPCA shelters will be closed on Sunday 10 May and will remain closed during their usual operating days on Monday 11 May and Tuesday 12 May.
Our RSPCA Wildlife Hospital and Eumundi Wildlife Rehabilitation Facility will remain open, and our RSPCA Op Shops, RSPCA World for Pets stores, and RSPCA Black Cat Café are ready to welcome you as usual.
💆♂️ Our animals will be enjoying a little extra behind-the-scenes pampering while our team works through this transition.

Do you know this vehicle? RSPCA Queensland urgently seeking public assistance in this animal cruelty investigation.
At 3:02am on Saturday 2 May 2026, the vehicle shown was used to deliberately chase and strike a kangaroo multiple times resulting in its death at Curly Ct, Torrington.
Between the hours of 3:00 and 3:10am this vehicle was seen driving east on Carrington Rd, Torrington, and after the alleged incident, resumed driving east on Carrington Rd after slowly driving around Quarryville Rd estate.
