We mic’d up Head Professional Richard Harris to take us through a SWING program session. There’s always strong progress being made, particularly as this group was nearing the end of their term-long program earlier this year.
The sessions vary based on past golfing experience, with this session being focused on developing the essential swings required to get out on course as soon as possible. Richard works with the group to build the fundamentals of driving, honing in their irons, and establishing a confident short-game.

The late afternoon run-in on our Coot-tha Nine is not for the faint hearted. The 7th requires precision every step of the way to keep the card intact.
IGC Junior Cassandre plays it perfectly off the tee, but is left with plenty to do. The approach is protected short by water, with bunkers long and to the right, leaving little room for error. Tidy work out of the bunker gets Cassandre away with a bogey, which many would take on a hole like this.
Are you laying up here or attacking the pin?

Congratulation Doug on his number Two
Playing the Wednesday competition yesterday, Doug Smith playing the hard Coot-tha 4 with a back left pin, achieved his 2nd ever hole in one.
On the tee he was quoted as saying he hopes he can two putt this green, with skills like Doug, there was no need for the putter.
Well done Doug

Rick’s wines are aging well
Rick Holzgrefe continues to get better with age, just like the fine wines he keeps winning.
During the month of March, Rick beat or tied his age twice and more impressively did one on a Back Marker Challenge off the Black tees.
On Tuesday 24 March in the optional competition, Rick shot a 78 off the stick on the East course, off the blue tees to win the competition that day and beat his age
Three days later in the Back Marker challenge off the black tees, Rick shot 81 to tie his age, which again is remarkable.
Rick continues to chase the great efforts of member Alan Gillott who has the most scores beating his age of 9 times. Rick is closing in with having done this 6 times
Congratulations Rick

During Wendy’s time at the club, she was Captain for 3 years. Alongside her was Joan Fletcher, a long-term member and incredible golfer. The pair worked tirelessly to help grow the game, supporting less experienced golfers and young girls wanting to improve their skills. With the help of Head Professional Ian Triggs, Joan and Wendy were able to build a community, strengthen participation in the women’s ranks, and assist our pennants team to perform at the highest level.
Many of the women that they helped fall in love with the game are still deeply involved at Indooroopilly, or somewhere else afield but still a part of the community.
It is a time that Wendy reflects fondly on, and is grateful to have the likes of Brad Nienaber continuing to nurture progression, at all levels.

Rossa and Frank break through the Age barrier
In the last few weeks we have had some wonderful achievements with none greater than beating your age.
On Wednesday 11 March on the President’s course playing stroke off the Red tees in the competition, Rossa O’Donoghue tied his age for the 2nd time with a fine 87.
Rossa plays regularly and is always on the edge of a breakthrough of beating his age.
Playing in todays Monthly Medal on the Captain’s course off the Blue tees, Frank McLean played some brilliant golf with a 76 off the stick to beat his age by 2. This was his first time and he did it with a few shots to spare. Only recently did Frank have a hole in one, so 2026 looks like a great year for Frank.
Congratulations to both members on wonderful achievements and we hope to see many more to come
