The Peacock Saws Timber and Artisan show was a great day on Sunday, and fantastic to see so many keen wood lovers out there to check it out. Great to briefly catch up with customers of past, thanks so much for your support.
Lots of work goes into organising a show, and from my perspective a lot of work went into bringing about 2.5 tonnes of dressed timber to the event. What I'm trying to say is that I'm having next week off....!

CLOSED NEXT WED-SAT (Oct 21-24).

Sunday October 11th 9am at Peacock Saws, hope to see you!
Once again I will be closed next week from October 5-10th.

I'm dressing yellow box slabs at the moment (E. melliodora) which came from Glen Innes area. I love the colour and grain, but hard to work with a density the same as ironbark. Perfect for an outdoor bench or table which catches some sun.

This is my last giant burl - a 1.5 tonne blackbutt monster....
The slabs are coming off very nicely so far. I will have slabs dry and ready to make into tables in about 4 months (burl dries relatively quickly).

You don't see much of this these days....
Most people have never seen it.
It's one of Australia's rarest timbers. It is a variant of Tasmanian myrtle called Tiger myrtle.
I love it for many reasons - one being the name which ties in the legend of the Tasmanian tiger. The black stripes occur from a fungus that works It's way into the live tree. This particular piece is also burl, making the grain patterns spectacular as well.

I'm milling some very nice red mahogany logs at the moment (E. resinifera). This is one of my favourite species of Australia hardwood - the east coast's answer to WA jarrah. I'll let you know when dry and ready to use

A couple of things to share - a customer, Alex, turned a simple bowl from a piece of my maple silkwood (Flindersia pimenteliana). It's actually the first time I've seen it fully finished and I think you would agree it is extremely nice, with an amazing lustre. I still have a reasonable amount left, in 40 and 55mm thicknesses, and widths up to 300mm.
Secondly, my first very large resin river table has reached the next stage, not far from being complete

Everyone should make at least one resin table in their lives!....
Reminder that I am closed for a week starting tomorrow 31st July.

28/07/2026

Notice of one-week closure from this Friday July 31.
Open again Saturday August 8th
Apologies
