A huge thank you to Cr Greg Adermann for supporting Bellbowrie Sports & Community Club through the Pullenvale Ward Suburban Enhancement Fund with funding for our new irrigator.

This will make a big difference in helping us maintain our fields for the hundreds of local players who use them each season.

We truly appreciate your continued support of our community and local sport! 💚⚽🏏🏉

The fields at Booker Place Park, Bellbowrie provide opportunities for more than 800 local footballers, 400 junior cricketers and 200 touch players to play competitive sport and stay fit and healthy.

The Bellbowrie Sports & Community Club, as part of its lease over this Council owned space, is responsible for maintaining the fields to ensure they are safe for the playing of competitive sport.

At times, particularly during the summer months, that can be a challenge so when the Club reached out for support to help with its maintenance schedule, we were only too happy to oblige. Through the Pullenvale Ward Suburban Enhancement Fund, I agreed to fund a new, modern and efficient irrigator for the Club.

The irrigator has now been delivered and I caught up with BSCC President, Ben Holcroft to check it out.

I’m told the Marani F010B irrigator operates at moderate pressure, helping reduce energy costs and ensuring consistent coverage across ovals and fields. Importantly, this system is durable, easy to operate, and cost-effective.

We are pleased to advise that Ben has filled the President position, which is a positive step forward for the club.

However, we are still seeking interest for other vacant board positions, as well as additional subcommittee members, to help build a strong and thriving leadership team moving forward. While this is progress, we are by no means out of the woods yet — but we are working hard to set new foundations that will allow the club to grow and succeed long-term.

📢 Field Update 📢

This morning the team from the Fire Ant Eradication Program attended the fields at Bellbowrie Sports and Community Club (Clark Park). A number of nests were identified and have now been treated accordingly.

We’re pleased to let everyone know that the fields will reopen from Saturday.

Please remain vigilant while at the grounds. If you notice any suspected fire ant nests, report them to the club immediately so we can act quickly.

As many of you know, we held our AGM last Monday. Unfortunately, no nominations were received either prior to or from the floor for the available Board positions.

As a result, we will be holding a General Meeting in 14 days on 18/03/2026 - 7PM.

We are calling on our community to step up and support the club. We heard plenty of passionate voices at the AGM now it’s time to turn those words into action. Whether it’s joining the Board or being part of a subcommittee, your club needs you.

We need our community now more than ever to help rebuild and strengthen this club from the ground up. This can only happen if we come together.

🐜Fire Ant Update 🐜

We’ve identified fire ants on the fields at Bellbowrie Sports and Community Club (Clark Park).

As a result, all fields are now closed until we receive further guidance from the State Government.

This decision has been made for everyone’s safety. Please do not enter the fields during this time. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more information.

👫Fire Ant First Aid – Humans

Most fire ant stings do not require medical treatment.

**If breathing is normal and there’s no history of insect allergies:**

* Apply a cold compress to reduce pain and swelling
* Gently wash the area with soap and water
* Take an antihistamine for itching or mild reactions
* Keep blisters intact to avoid infection

🚨Severe Reactions – Seek Urgent Medical Help

Get urgent medical advice if the person experiences:

* Rapid flushing
* Hives
* Swelling of the face, eyes or throat
* Chest pain
* Nausea
* Heavy sweating
* Difficulty breathing
* Faintness

🐕 Fire Ant First Aid – Animals

If a pet is stung:

* Move them away from the ants or nest immediately
* Monitor for signs of a severe reaction
* Seek veterinary care if symptoms worsen

AGM Update

A big thank you to everyone who attended our AGM last night and showed their support. We truly appreciate the passion so many of you have for the club — it means a lot, and we share that same commitment.

We’d also like to sincerely thank our affiliated clubs for attending and for their valuable contributions to the discussion. Your ongoing involvement and support play an important role in the club’s future.

There were some good ideas raised, and please know we will be giving them genuine consideration as we continue to plan our next steps.

Keeping the club’s doors open is a community effort. It is critical that we all work together to ensure a strong and sustainable future for the club.

We’ll be sending out a survey shortly to gather your thoughts on what you’d like to see from your club moving forward. We’re looking forward to hearing your ideas and working together to make them happen.
