RECONCILIATION CONTINUES BEYOND THIS WEEK

National Reconciliation Week may come to an end, but reconciliation is ongoing work โ€” every day, all year round.

Being All In means continuing to listen, learn, support and walk alongside First Nations peoples beyond commemorative dates and campaigns.

Keep showing up by:
๐ŸŒฟ Supporting First Nations businesses year-round
๐Ÿ‘ฃ Continuing cultural learning within your workplace or school
๐Ÿ–ค Building genuine relationships with local community
๐Ÿƒ Attending First Nations events, markets and exhibitions
๐ŸŒ Creating long-term opportunities for First Nations voices and leadership

Reconciliation is built through action, consistency and connection.

At My Dilly Bag, weโ€™re proud to share bushfoods, culture, conversation and community through workshops, products, events and experiences that bring people together around the table.

Thank you to everyone who has supported First Nations businesses, attended community events, had conversations, listened deeply and taken steps toward reconciliation this week ๐ŸคŽ

๐Ÿ’ฌ TOPIC CARD:
โ€œWhat is one action we can continue beyond Reconciliation Week to help create lasting change?โ€

Can I ask a favour of everyone who follows this page?

For years I have stood in parks, under bridges, in car parks, and in camps across Moreton Bay. I have listened to people sleeping rough, business owners, residents, volunteers, health workers, nurses, police, and community organisations.

One thing has become very clear.

We cannot keep pretending these issues will fix themselves.

Homelessness is growing.
Public spaces are under increasing pressure.
Waste is becoming a bigger issue.
Basic sanitation is lacking in many locations.

Whether you are passionate about homelessness, public health, community safety, or simply keeping our public spaces clean, this affects all of us.

That is why I am asking you to get behind this petition.

A big thank you to MP Nikki Boyd for sponsoring it and helping bring these concerns before Parliament.

This is not about choosing sides.

It is about recognising what is happening in our community and supporting practical solutions that improve outcomes for everyone.

If enough people speak up, Parliament has to listen.

So please take a couple of minutes to sign.

Then share it with your family, friends, workmates, community groups, and local pages.
( remember to share the link too)

Every signature matters.
Every share matters.
Every voice matters.

The petition link is in the comments.

Let's show Parliament that Moreton Bay cares enough to be part of the solution.

We have 3700 signatures, we need 10k to be taken seriously.

Ok folks, whilst weโ€™re away at the amazing Eastwell Farms Heart Summit, we want to remind you all itโ€™s a 5 weekend month! This means that itโ€™s a farmerโ€™s weekend ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŒพโค๏ธ, and the shop wonโ€™t be open today or this coming week, and no deliveries will happen next Saturday. ๐Ÿ’ช
Our online shop will open again next Sunday 31st of May! ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ…
Have a fabulous day everyone- farmer Randal will be busy sharing the Echo Valley story, and the power of community this morning โค๏ธ

Couple of big changes!

๐Ÿ’ก1. Peopleโ€™s Day has evolved. We were overwhelmed by positive feedback on the listening posts at our 2024 Summit - what weโ€™d originally wondered if many would stop and make time for ended up being one of the most powerful parts of the day. So this year weโ€™re giving the community a proper โ€˜Summitโ€™ session to learn, collaborate and make sure your voices get carried through to the rooms where decisions get made, in Your Food, Your Future - People's Day workshop, SEQ Food Summit

๐Ÿป2. Not one but two evening social events, both open to everyone. Because none of this is possible without joy, fun and connection! A food film night on 19 July, and then on the 20th, an Eat Drink Think evening of panels and lightning talks from some big brains and bigger personalities in food. Details on these to come very soon, watch this space.

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ3. Industry Day is no longer invite-only. If you're in the business of growing, buying, transporting, cooking or serving food, we want you in the room. Come find your next collaborator or big idea.

There is a deeply moving and important story from SBS that we need our whole community to sit with.

This isnโ€™t just an article about food.
This is about identity, healing, culture, injustice, and hope.

It follows Brisbane chef Chris Jordan ( Three Little Birds Events ) - a man who has spent years searching for purpose, connection, and a reason to keep going. After decades in kitchens around the world, it wasnโ€™t until he found bushfoods that everything changed.

Through native ingredients - wattleseed, lemon myrtle, Kakadu plum - he didnโ€™t just discover flavourโ€ฆ
he discovered who he is.

Chris speaks openly about the darkest parts of his life โ€” moments where he was struggling, asking for guidance, searching for a reason. And in that space, he found mentorship, culture, and direction through our own Aunty Dale Chapman.

He shares, very honestly, that meeting Aunty Dale played a role in him getting sober - that her knowledge, leadership, and willingness to pass on culture gave him purpose.

That alone is powerful. But it doesnโ€™t stop there.

This article also shines a light on a harsh truth:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Australiaโ€™s bushfood industry is worth tens of millions of dollars
๐Ÿ‘‰ Yet only a tiny percentage is Indigenous-owned

While the industry grows, many First Nations people - the original knowledge holders - are still being left behind.

Chris is working to change that.

Heโ€™s not just cooking - heโ€™s mentoring!
Heโ€™s working with young Indigenous people, many at risk of entering the justice system, helping them reconnect to culture and build real pathways forward.

Because the reality is confronting:
First Nations youth are vastly overrepresented in detention, a reflection of deep, ongoing trauma and disconnection.

Through food, Chris is creating something different -
โœจ connection
โœจ pride
โœจ opportunity
โœจ healing

This article is not easy reading - but it is necessary.

It reminds us that bushfoods are not just ingredients on a plate.
They are culture, survival, identity, and legacy.

๐Ÿ’› Please take the time to read the full story
๐Ÿ’› Reflect on it
๐Ÿ’› And if it resonates share it with your mob

Because these are the conversations that need to be heard.

I'll put the link in the comments
