Introducing Connor, who many of our regular customers have already met. Conor has been working at Archie for several months now, regularly supported by Chef Kya, and Gracie in the kitchen, serving customers, making drinks - and all the connective tasks that make a kitchen run better.
A fantastic worker with a great attitude, he's working towards purchasing his first car and stepping into his adult life with purpose and positivity.
If you see Connor on the front counter, say g'day.

Wow. The response to our supported employment job posts has been huge 💛

We’ve had back-to-back interviews, met some absolute gems, and spoken with people who are ready for work — sometimes for the very first job of their lives.

It’s a pretty clear sign that there’s a real need for employment for people with disability, paying full award wages instead of pocket change.

We’re very grateful. Go team.

The best thing about being part of the Archie team - are our wonderful co-workers!

Everyone puts in, speaks up, listens carefully, works hard, does silly dances, contributes creative ideas, gets passionate, has pride in their work, shows up, and gives their time, energy and imagination to our little kitchen - and the wonderful communities we love to serve.

Feel free to start a yarn when you come for a feed. Knowing our team, it's gonna get interesting!

We've been levelling up our brunch game at Archie. With our big brekkie, brunch and egg drop burgers, range of hot and ice cold-brew coffee, ancient choc, spiced chai and turmeric - plus a range of delicious cakes and slices - there's something for everyone.

Thanks to Chef Kya, despite our kitchen being pretty teeny, we deliver a huge variety of drinks, meals and brunchish desserts - to hit the spot.

We'd love to see you this morning (Sunday) for a good old feast and chill.

Supported employment is at once interesting, exciting, and unpredictable at times.
When Aiden started with us several months ago now, we never would have expected he would become our 'chicken king'.

But his consistent work ethic, and commitment to quality and following through with his tasks - means that he's the right man for the job, and the one we can trust to deliver, on the chicken!

Every week, or weekend long, our customers are eating his double fried, soju infused, long marinated, special batter seitan miracle chunks.

Whether it's the Korean Friend Chicken Burger, the Spicy Island Burger, or chicken pieces on the side - Aiden's care and love goes into all of them.
With a cracking personality, colourful ways of connecting with people and expressing himself - we are really blessed to have him in our team.

Our new range of drinks are on this week at Archie! Come give them a try🥤

How about these delights:

Black Sesame and Taro Milk Tea 🟣- with candied sesame and soft cream
Black Forest Bliss 🍒 - with toasted coconut, cacao nibs and muddled cherries
Lychee Rose Bubble Tea rose 🌹 - with housemate lychee jelly, rosewater and our yummy thai tea.

Open from Thursday 11am, all through the weekend. Chef's whole range of new flavours are ready to be enjoyed!

We're increasing our growing space yet again! This time, at .support.services Brisbane Headquarters!

We're planning for the majority of Archie's veggies, greens, and herbs to come from our kitchen garden going forward.

And the best part: they'll be tended by our disabled workers - helping to ensure the soil-food-waste cycle is strong, with healthy soils helping grow healthy human bodies.

In fact, a whole bunch of lawn-space is on its way out on two separate properties, with more planned in the coming weeks!

With years of experience between the Meliora and Archie leadership team growing veggies commercially in the past, the sky is the limit, and fresh produce may become a supported employment business in its own right!

Can't wait for the next harvest!

Chef Kya says it all. In just a couple of short years, there's been several iterations of Archie AMPM, including Mel and Zac building and opening u, and creating amazing foods and with regular pop-ups and events.

In October we reopened, as part of Meliora Support Services, a charity that employs disabled people. That's been our biggest success story so far, with almost every shift now including supported workers, who earn a regular wage like everyone else. They're an indispensable part of our team, and teach us plenty.

We have also worked hard to ensure steady and dependable opening hours, and a great menu full of Archie classics and new creations like our Uber popular korean-style chicken.

Then in January, Chef Kya joined our team, moving from the head chef position at the Ovolo (which was previously Za Za Ta) to join our little cafe and share our vision. As chef has taken the reins, it's allowing us to move in the direction of a more modern, diverse, veggie forward menu, which has gradually taken shape and been tested by our wonderful customers over the past couple of months.

We're close to launching our full new menu. If you're a long-time fan, fear not! Archie classics will still feature. But get ready for new vibes. New tableware, new flavours, broader opening hours and some lovely new faces too!

Archie isn't just what's on the plate.

It's a story of connection: to the food we eat and the soil it's grown in, to nutrition, to nature and to each other.

We care about:
Who grows our ingredients 👨‍🌾🚜🧺
How and where they're grown 🥒🥕🍠
The environmental impact 🐌🐝🌳
What's in season and when 🌸🍂🌨️☀️

That's why we're slowly developing our kitchen garden - as part of Archie's Supported Employment Program. Grown using 'Back to Eden' gardening principles, we're slowly fostering a vibrant 'forest floor' to grow from.

'Seed to Service' - means our workers and customers can be part of the 'real food' journey. Growing seedlings and planting them out, plant care, harvesting and processing our produce, then incorporating them into Chef Kya's menu week-to-week.

For our customers? It means unbelievably delicious heirloom variety fruits and veggies - the kind you just can't buy commercially. Increased nutritional value in our meals. And knowledge about how your meal arrived at your table.

It's part of some gradual changes for Archie AMPM. You'll see us share more about it going forward.

As soon as our garden grown produce arrives at the kitchen, we'll be sure to let you know!

29/04/2026

This week we're shooting for the stars, with Chef Kya's ambitious new main - the Celeriac Steak!

With a silky smooth sweet potato mash, chef's beetroot gravy, green beans, and a turmeric dukkah. Rich, complex, refined and absolutely delicious - this is definitely not one to miss.

Back open from 11am tomorrow (Thursday) - this one has blown away the rest of the Archie staff.
Chef Kya has been a wonderful addition to our team, taking to a support role very quickly, with sensitivity, kindness and love. Our supported employees adore working with her, and the vibes at Archie continue to build as a result.
Most of our shifts this week, you will find disabled workers serving you, making drinks, plating food and bringing orders to your table. They are skilled, talented, essential members of our team.

Archie AMPM is seeking for more staff to apply to work with us - in a hybrid role where you both engage your own kitchen and front of house tasks, advance along potential career pathways - PLUS - support your disabled co-workers, as part of our dynamic, passionate, caring little team.

We're a fully plant-based supported employment cafe/restaurant based in Carseldine - owned by charity Meliora Support Services

At Archie we're not pushing out buttered toast and nescafe. We know our disabled workers are capable of a whole lot more, with the right support and working together. In fact, we aim to appeal to foodies as one of the best options in Brisbane.

We're now led by executive chef Kya Knights, formerly of Za Za Ta renown. With our new menu under Chef Kya about to launch, our focus is on increasingly complex, refined, veggie-forward dishes from around the world - with a focus on freshness, flavour and community.

We're growing week-on-week - and we need workers who are:

1. Experienced in Hospitality (at least 1.5+ yrs). If you love plant-based fare, even better.

2. Willing to work with disabled people, supporting them with their tasks, helping to manage the impact of their impairment, and help them build capacity with the tasks they want. (If you also have experience in disability support, that's even better)

3. Ideally, be a softie. We have worked hard to ensure we have a caring, positive and loving workspace for everybody here. A team where people take responsibility for feeling their emotions, rather than projecting them - is something we value very highly.

4. Willingness to get your Disability Workers Screening Check (yellow card), police check, have a fully insured working car and undertake some training.

If you tick some of these boxes we absolutely want to hear from you.

Fill out the Expression of Interest form below and we'll reach out to you, to get to know you and see if we're a good fit for each other.

11/04/2026

Archie isn't just a cafe serving plant based food. We're so much more than that in the way we connect with other people.

Here's three things:

1. We're actually a not-for-profit. A registered charity where everyone works and receives a wage, but nobody owns Archie itself. We never look to profit from our customers: rather our passion is to be of service.
These are also the kind of people we look to employ - so everybody has an attitude of 'giving'.

2. We employ disabled people. Now, we do post about this already so it might not be a surprise. Some of our disabled workers have never had a job before, because there hasn't been the right employer with the right opportunity that meets their needs.
Rather than have a disabled person fit our team and environment - our attitude to to work out how Archie can change to fit their support needs and goals instead. Disabled people are front and centre to our mission and future.

3. Though we only took over running Archie AMPM six months ago, our parent organisation has been supporting disabled and older aussies for many years now, with hundreds of thousands of hours of care provided.
Along with Chef Kya, the core team guiding our development behind the scenes (plus taking fill-in shifts at Archie) - are actually the Meliora executive team!
Our approach to serving the community is that everyone gets in and does every job. So you'll see our founding director cleaning the fryer, on dishes duty and taking orders, just like everyone else.

More than anything, Archie is teamwork. A highly collaborative group of foodies and creatives who really want to do the best job for you.

That's driving us to develop soooooo much cool stuff coming up soon.

We can't wait to share more so you can get to know us better.

Creativity is part of our DNA at Archie.

With all our recipes, like our brand new out-of-this-world Brazilian Strawberry Lemonade, our whole team comes together to conceive, collaborate and communicate the next exciting special, pop-up or menu we're releasing.

This one is from Gracie, our trusty scot/aussie cook, always experimenting and exploring - in an environment that encourages ideas, flavours and play.

At just $10, it's sweet, sour, creamy, fizzy, and fruity, with an immediate 'wow what is this' sensory and flavour experience.

We never get tired of ideas. We always want more. Which is why we ask YOU what you want as well.

Behind the scenes 👀 Supported Employment at Archie:

How it actually works!

Step 1: Expression of Interest lands
We get the form. We get excited every time. We do a little “oooh hello” and start the ball rolling. It's cool when it's someone who doesn't have much faith they could work at Archie because of their impairment, but they reached out.
'Probably not, but just in case', y'know.
We're like 'Hold my ginger beer!' Let's make it work!!

Step 2: We actually get to know them
This bit matters heaps. Personality. Character. Meeting them where they're at. Less interview and more making new friends. We ask heaps of questions. And do our best to listen.

What they’re good at. What drains them. What they’d rather absolutely not do.

Are they a detail-loving cookie counter?
A quiet kitchen gremlin who wants headphones and a prep list?
A people person who loves a little chat at the counter?
A “please don’t put me near the screaming blender” person?

We also look at practical stuff. Temperature reg. Trouble reaching high or low. Falls risk. Seizures. Challenges with multi-step instructions. Things that affect stamina, movement, communication, or confidence.

This part can takes as long as it takes. We're in no rush.

Step 3: Support Plan timeNow we build the plan.
How do we set them up for success?
What changes to our workspace are needed?
Who’s the right staff match?
What tasks feel like a good starting point?
What’s the skills pathway from there?

Step 4: Trial shifts
We just get stuck in and see where things land. Lots of chatting between support staff and our management team. Checking in with the disabled worker during and after.

Step 5: Rinse and repeatThen we keep adjusting.
Do we need cool equipment or tech? Better comms? A simpler system? Bigger challenges? More visual prompts? Less reaching, less noise, less chaos?

This is our passion. The Archie purpose. Our dream.

You guys love our plant-based chicken so much, we've gone and done something totally unique.

The delicious new, Uncle Roger inspired Malay style spicy fried chicken - Ayam Goreng Berempah!

Malaysian fried chicken is unique in that it uses a blended up mix of herbs and spices to form a crunchy coating when fried, rather than an actual batter.

Super crunchy, spicy without overkill, fresh and delicious - this might be our favourite Chef Kya special yet.

Come get it all this weekend. It's unlike anything else you can get in Brisbane, and won't be around for long, with a very unique blend of flavours and textures.
