October 1 changes… Our menu prices are staying the same! 💜

You may have recently noticed a lot of small businesses talking about the October 1 changes to card surcharges, and what those changes mean for their pricing.

We’ve been having those same conversations behind the scenes at Dovetail on Overend.

For a small independent café like ours, card fees add up very quickly. We’ve looked carefully at the numbers and considered how it will impact our business.

And we’ve decided to NOT increase any prices.

We know the cost of everyday living has gone up for everyone, us included. Groceries, electricity, fuel, mortgages, rent, insurance - it felt like they were never ending this year…

We don’t want to be further contributing to that trend, so rather than immediately increasing our menu prices in response to the October 1 changes, we’re keeping them right where they are.

We’ll continue to accept ALL major cards, including American Express, and we’re always happy to accept CASH too.

We can make this decision because we have something incredibly valuable behind us - a wonderful community of regulars and locals who continue to support us.

Many of you visit us every day, or every week. Some have been coming for years. We know your coffee orders, we’ve watched your families grow, and we’ve celebrated plenty of birthdays and milestones with you.

Your support means way more to a small business like ours than you probably realise.

We’ve always believed that being part of a local community works both ways. You support us, and we do everything we can to make your day better when you visit us.

So, despite the October 1 changes, there’s no menu price increase from us.

NO COELIAC TAX. 💜

When we opened Dovetail on Overend 12 years ago, we made a decision:

You shouldn't have to pay extra just because you have Coeliac Disease.

So at Dovetail on Overend, we don’t charge extra for gluten-free. Ever. 💜

And we don't believe your gluten-free version should be smaller, less exciting, or feel like the compromise on the table.

If you order one of our dishes gluten-free, our goal is for you to have the same generous, delicious Dovetail experience as everyone else.

Because when someone at the table is Coeliac, they shouldn't have to watch everyone else's beautiful meals arrive while theirs looks like the "special dietary" version.

And then there are our donuts. 🍩💜

We don't just make a few gluten-free ones and keep them separate. No!! Every single donut we bake is gluten-free!!

With flavours for everyone (and most Dairy Free too):
Lemon + Blueberry
Passionfruit + Raspberry

Strawberry Matcha

And of course or famous signature Donuts:

Dovetail is a Coeliac family business. We've lived this ourselves, and for the past 12 years we've tried to create the kind of café experience we wanted for our own family.

“But I don’t like coconut…”

We’ve heard that one before. 😉💜

Our signature Yamington™ is ridiculously soft and fluffy ube purple yam donut, covered in ube icing and finished with a light coating of desiccated coconut.

And apparently, we’ve converted a few coconut sceptics along the way. 😂

Feedback we LOVE:

“That combination that gets me every time - the softness of the donut, the ube flavour, then that slight texture from the coconut. It just works.”

“I’ve tasted a LOT of gluten-free desserts over the years, and I still rate the Yamington right up there with the best of them.” 😍

So when someone tells us, “I don’t like coconut”…

We just smile. 😉

One bite. Then we’ll revisit that statement.

For those traveling by public transport to Overend Street in Brisbane, take the train and get off at the Moorooka Station. From there, take the bus heading towards Rocklea or Salisbury and get off at Annerley Road at Fairfield Road stop. Walk straight until you reach Overend Street.

If you are driving, turn onto Fairfield Road from Ipswich Road (or Annerley Road if coming from the city). Continue on Fairfield Road until you reach Overend Street and turn right. Parking is available on-street.
