Tomorrow marks one year since we lost a very special part of the Splityard Social family — our foundation barista and roaster, James. 🤎
James helped shape the coffee culture we’re so proud of today. His passion for exceptional coffee, his knowledge and his commitment to doing things properly left a lasting mark on Splityard, and one year on, he is still deeply missed.
Over the past year, our team has worked hard to continue building on the foundation James created — learning, growing and always striving for the coffee excellence he believed in.
It feels particularly meaningful that this anniversary coincides with the arrival of our first **Zukura Bora Single Origin** beans.
The Zukura Bora coffee was first highlighted to us during Sam Keck from Commonfolk Coffee’s visit to Splityard last year, and it represents so much of what we believe James would have loved about the future of coffee — quality, connection and purpose.
A percentage from every Zukura Bora coffee sold will go towards supporting farming families and widows in Uganda, helping create opportunity and positive change within the communities behind the coffee we get to enjoy.
We think that’s something that would have made our beloved James smile. 🤎
So as we remember him tomorrow, we’ll raise a cup to James — to the legacy he left behind, to everything he taught us, and to continuing to make really bloody good coffee with heart.

❄️ 17 days, 23 hours, 1 minute.
That’s the kind of adventure Troy Szczurkowski knows well.
What began as a project in 2013 has seen Troy line up 10 times on Alaska’s legendary Iditarod Trail, with six finishes in Nome from nine Nome starts, plus a McGrath finish in his rookie year in 2015.
The Iditarod Trail is famous for its brutal winter conditions and its connection to Alaska’s historic 1925 Serum Run, when 20 mushers and around 150 sled dogs carried lifesaving diphtheria antitoxin more than 1,000km across Alaska to Nome in just over five days.
Now Troy is bringing his own stories from this extraordinary landscape to Splityard Social.
