What is your name?
A customer came in on the weekend and ordered a coffee. It was busy….so I asked her, “What is your name so I can complete your order, please?”
She hesitated. Only for a split second but I recognised the slight pause. (My thought was that she’s private about such matters, and not everyone is comfortable disclosing their name, so I suggested, with a nonjudgmental attitude, that she seems to be creating a fake name for the order).
She giggled and agreed she was trying to quickly think of a name other than her own. I explained that we ask this to prevent confusion in busy periods and that we don’t ‘hold onto’ customers names or other personal details.
Her laugh was so hearty that it took me by complete surprise….she said simply….my name is “Karen” and this name has been ruined through advertising and the media.
I laughed with her and told that my name is “Heather” and has also gone through this process. We have become name-shame buddies now! 😂😂😂😳
By the way, come and try some of our salads. They really are delicious and wonderful take-away options for home!

Enjoy the moments….
One of the most special times in a cafe, is when a large group of people arrive to spend time with us!
Yesterday and today was particularly lovely as each day presented us with a large group of mature and energetic customers.
I was struck by their easy laughter and cheeky banter with each other, and with us. I was also surprised by their openness about times past. Photos were shared; family stories were told and wise advice dished out, when appropriate. They were also interested in us!
One of my favourite comments of the day, whispered to me while proudly showing me her treasured family photos from decades ago was….
“Enjoy every moment of your life, because one day you will wish you had more time”.
This, of course truly resonated with me!

Feeling small in the face of another of life's challenges.
I was humbled by my first international Rockclimbing
competition— very humbled.
Let me explain…I have had another realisation of my own limitations when faced with yet a brand new challenge…..
Although my goal was to climb higher than I have ever climbed before; to be competitive - I instead, was brought quickly down to earth in the shattering realisation that I have a tremendous amount of hard & smart work to do, in order to match any of my talented competitors in the future.
Their achievements have only inspired me to push on and up. To try, try and try again!
I must add that I also feel honoured by the generosity shown to me by Janelle, during this Salt Lake City Rockclimbing World Cup. She became my competition guide and my day guide. A feat that was noticed by all, especially ME!

Coffee not coffee
It’s the perfect weather for a creamy hot chocolate made from the finest ingredients and super wonderful choice of flavours - dark, caramel, orange, mint, vanilla, cinnamon, chai and chilli.
….Or just a VERY well crafted and tasty coffee made from Montville Roasted Coffee Beans!

Something unusual.
This last weekend at Graceville Moments Cafe was another insightful time for those of us working there. Again it was a delight to be looking after my community!
Each customer was so much fun and brought their own unique energy and joy to our space.
I noticed something unusual too. Groups of friends appeared and left. This was not unusual but….each time it was obvious that the phones were away - right away!
I really enjoyed seeing them look each other in the eye, chat, laugh, giggle, banter and even scowl when appropriate. Light hearted conversations, serious conversations and important connecting moments were had by all.
Thank you so much for choosing our space to meet and have these special moments together. We are, as usual….grateful.

If anyone knows me, then you will understand that Caramel is one of my all time favourites, so of course we have a lot in here at the moment! 😂
You will find our handmade ‘Creamy Caramel truffles’ and our signature gooey ‘Salted Caramel truffles’ in our chocolate cabinet.
Buttttt….you will also find ‘Crumbed Caramel Brownie Slices’, Caramel & Pecan Slices (Gluten Free) and….a NEW CREATION….Salted Caramel and Chocolate Tart! Woooohoooo!
It’s really, really good! I’m hoping at least one survives for me to take home. Get in quick! 😂

What is our totally blind local cafe owner, Chocolatier, adventurer and Paralympic athlete doing now!?!
Gerrard Gosens and his other Australian team members are in Salt Lake City preparing for the Rock Climbing World Cup. (Believe it or not) He is on a mission to find out if he’s good enough to aim higher than ever before. And that is, can he represent Australia again at the next Paralympic Games in a sport he’s loved for many years. A sport he took up to prepare for his Everest climb and a sport he shared with his young family. It was a sport he enjoyed when he wanted to connect with friends and family.
Now the question remains….at his mature age, is it possible to aim the highest???

Dogs….there is ‘something’ about dogs that make everything better!
We meet many dogs at our cafe while ‘their people’ enjoy some time with us. I feel like I’m getting to know the wonderful dogs who visit just as well as I’m getting to know all of you.
Come in and try some of our delicious chocolate options! We made these Dark Chocolate Dried Blood Orange treats last night. They should be on the shelves tomorrow. Sooooo good. I ate many! (I’m the official taste tester 😂)

Today was a day filled with groups of friends!
We really delight in serving the “friend groups!” The cheeky humour, warmth and joy they bring to our cafe is palpable.
We often have ‘spontaneous’ groups (meaning, no reservation) turning up to enjoy our space, ranging from 3 to 6 friends, and it’s always an experience filled with giggles and fun for us too.

I’ve noticed that time is a luxury these days. At least, that’s how it feels. Is there some time available to enjoy a well made coffee, a mindfully made meal and a warm chat with family and friends?
It’s been a joy to see my local community use our space for these moments. Yesterday, I watched an elderly husband lovingly fuss over his wife as she sat ready to look over our menu. This warm exchange continued through their meal with us. It was really heart-warming to watch.
In fact, this was a theme for many couples who ventured in yesterday, and I was truly honoured to be able to serve and briefly get to know many of you. Thank you.

Gerrard Gosens, Chocolatier and athlete is heading to the Rockclimbing World Cup in Salt Lake City, but has stopped off at Los Angeles first to check out the venues for the 2028 Paralympic Games. He takes this opportunity to talk with fellow Australian Rockclimbing athlete, Sarah Larcombe.
Yes….you read correctly - he’s still challenging himself and it’s yet another and different adventure. ROCKCLIMBING is a new Paralympic sport and Gerrard is on a new mission to compete again. The World Cup is the first of many, before he is able to prove himself good enough to qualify for the 2028 Paralympic Games!

Tori is embarking on a new endeavour. She will be concluding her tenure with us on Friday. She has been an invaluable asset to our cafe since its inception, working diligently each week from Tuesday to Friday. Her reliability and loyalty to our business and customers have been truly appreciated. As she departs to devote well-deserved time to her family, we will all miss her.

Gidday mates!
Today we are closed. It’s not often we make this decision but we are being sent to Thursday Island! Gerrard is an Australia Day Ambassador and has been asked to participate in the Events orgainised up there, including the presentation of the Australia Day awards and the delivery of the Australia Day speech. (He has always felt so honoured to do this and its been ongoing for the last 20 years)
Plus… I get to tag along, enjoy a short mini holiday while also meeting the wonderful people living up there!
